3 Ways to Build Sun Protection into Your Water Park Design | Dec. 6th, 2017
December 6th, 2017
Water parks and ‘fun in the sun’ are more or less synonymous. What better way is there to cool off on a hot summer’s day than to visit a water park?
But, while waterpark designs revolve around the safety of those who will enjoy them, there’s one safety risk that can get neglected. Recent news about rising cases of melanomas and other skin cancers in teens and children underline the dangers of anyone spending too much time in the sun.
Fortunately, if you manage an existing water park, or are designing and developing a new one, there are a few ways for you to offer your visitors some protection from the sun.
1) Shade Structures
Whether they are canopies over some of your water park play equipment, or umbrellas around the water playground, there are a number of options for you to add shade structures to your park layout and design. Fabric-tensioned shades and canopies and/or metal umbrellas not only help protect your visitors, but they can add significantly to the visual appeal of your park too.
2) Sunscreen Dispensers
IMPACT Melanoma is a non-profit organization in the United States dedicated to ‘reducing the incidence of melanoma’. One of their initiatives is to work municipalities and other organizations to place free sunscreen dispensers in public recreation areas. In the case of water parks, visitors can use the free sunscreen from the dispensers to make sure they have UVA and UVB protection throughout their visit to the park.
3) Natural Shade
There’s no better shade than that provided by Mother Nature. Shade trees, placed away from water park equipment, give visitors a place to go to get out of the sun, eat and rest without actually leaving the park.
Safety for the people who enjoy your water park comes in all shapes and sizes. Helping them reduce their exposure to the sun is a great way to make them safer than ever.
