Of course, there are way more than 3 different spray park water features. But, even if you have hundreds of choices for a water feature, they will all fall within three basic categories.

For water park planners, developers and builders, understanding the differences between the three can help in planning, design, construction and, ultimately, having the right mix of water attractions to keep your patrons entertained all day.

Categories of Spray Park Water Features

The splash pad and spray park equipment in the different categories might do the same thing. In other words, you may have equipment that sprays water in each of the three categories. The main difference between categories is water depth.

1) Zero-Depth Water Features – You can get the idea from its name. Zero-depth water features are designed to operate on a splash pad that drains the water away before it can accumulate to any appreciable depth. Without zero-depth features, the splash pads that are now standard in most new neighbourhoods might not exist. They allow children of all ages to enjoy the sprays, mists and fountain features in complete safety, without trained supervision.

2) Constant Depth Pools – While there is no set depth for a constant depth pool, they are generally not more than 12 inches, or 30 centimetres, deep. Mainly designed for older children, constant depth pools give parents the opportunity to soak on the edge of the pool, or even join in the fun, while they keep an eye on their children. The depth of water also helps to prevent children from running too fast. The play options in a constant depth pool are almost endless as children can splash and play on their own in the water without necessarily using the water features.

3) Beach Entry Pools – Beach entry pools start as sloped splash pads and end up as constant depth pools. They offer a way to transition from a zero-depth section to a constant depth area. The gently sloping area between them offers smaller children a way to safely play in water of very shallow depth.
